Description

Dubrovnik, island of Sveti Andrija (St.Andrija)
DEPTH: 10-80 meters
CURIOSITIES: beautiful reefs, small cave and red corals
DIFFICULTY: all categories
Island of Sv. Andrija is located approximately 2 nautical miles south-west from the island of Lopud.
Diving location is located on south-western side of the island. It is recognizable by the steep cliff that goes directly into the sea. The lighthouse is located on the outside of the cliff. This diving location is famous for a long time now for its beautiful dark red coral.
The ship anchors on the inner shallow side of the island, as much as possible closest to the outside where the steep cliff begins. Depth where the ship anchors is 3-10 meters. The bottom is covered with stones, overgrown by algaes, and full of hedgehon, starfishes and smaller fish.
By diving on the outside, we come to the end of cliff. When you look over the edge, you will be impressed by the view at the great depth, depth of 80 meters. The cliff that sharply enters the sea is covered with many sponges, algaes and fish.
By carefully observing, among huge stones and gaps you will be able to see live red coral.
Unfortunately, the red coral is rare because of its high price on the market and can be found only on big depths. We recommend you not to touch it. Groupers, sculpins, lobsters and many fishes are normal for this area.
As we first dive deeper, on the way back we will dive at the 12 meters of depth where we can find underwater cave in the cliff itself. Cave is full with corals in beautiful colors. On the cave bottom, in darkness, usually reside large shrimps, which are great to be seen under the flashlight. By diving 200 meters away from the cave on lower depth we come to the ship.
